Adelaide's big laugh

By Bronwen Beechey

ADELAIDE — Music lovers here had their treat with Womadelaide; now it's the turn of comedy fans to indulge themselves. The Adelaide Festival Centre is presenting The Big Laugh — two weeks of comedy beginning March 28.

The season begins with Free Laughs, a twilight concert at the Festival Centre Amphitheatre, where audiences can get a free serving of comedy from Greg Fleet, Sue-Ann Post, Kevin Kopfstein and Tripod, while scoffing cheeseburgers served up by Adelaide's famous Fat Elvises.

Highlights of the festival include: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare — Abridged, in which Glynn Nicholas, Russell Fletcher and Sean O'Shea do all 37 plays in 97 minutes; Judith Lucy in The Show; Rod Quantock's political satire; and Hung Le's Noodle Frontity, which tells the story of his return to Vietnam after leaving as a young child.

"Big old Leso" Sue-Ann Post returns with a new show (and a new front tooth). Greg Fleet's Scary examines why so many of us find horror entertaining.

Also appearing are Wil Anderson, Scared Weird Little Guys, Merrick and Rosso, and a number of local comedians. Free performances will take place every night in the Backstage Bar and Grill.

Bookings can be made through Bass. For more information, phone Kathryn Fleming on (08) 8216 8699.
