Socialist Alliance: For real climate solutions

March 13, 2010

"When it comes to climate change the Socialist Alliance assumes two things, one is that this is an emergency and the time in which to act is incredibly short", said Mel Barnes, Socialist Alliance Candidate for Denison, on March 11.

"Two is that we want to pursue solutions that will actually fix the problem. There is no use settling for half measures. Climate change isn't just an environmental issue, it affects our health, our food, our jobs and our future."

She was speaking at a forum of 150 people, at the University of Tasmania, organised by Climate Action Hobart and Environment Tasmania in the lead-up to the March 20 state election. Other speakers included Lisa Singh from the ALP, Vanessa Goodwin from the Liberal Party and Cassy O'Connor from the Greens.
