Green Left Weekly — Australia’s leading non-corporate newspaper — has an ambitious target to raise $300,000 for it’s fighting fund this year. This is the amount needed to ensure we can cover all the costs associated with research, production and distribution. It’s no small thing to produce such a quality publication.
So far this year we've raised $87,706, roughly 30% of our overall target. To be on track we need to have raised $125,000 by the end of May. There are a number of ways you can help to ensure GLW remains a proudly independent voice committed to social justice and environmental sustainability.
One thing you can do is take part in any of the fundraising events around the country. Recently in Fremantle, more than 80 people celebrated May Day and helped raise $2000. Geelong GLW supporters also held a May Day dinner and raised $2200.
Then on May 8, more than 120 people crammed into a hall in Western Sydney and raised a further $2200. The dinner brought together progressive migrant groups and fed on an appetising feast of Palestinian, African and Asian food.
Thanks so much to all who helped organise and attended these events.
Please keep an eye out for the next fundraiser near you. For Melbourne supporters make sure you get along to the 10th annual GLW comedy debate, adjudicated by comedian Rod Quantock, on Saturday May 29 (details in calendar). Participants will debate whether or not Tony Abbott is our saviour! It will be lots of fun and raise money important for GLW’s survival.
