By printing the news and ideas the mainstream media won't, GLW exposes the lies and distortions of the power brokers and helps us understand the world around us. In the words of multi-award-winning investigative journalist John Pilger, "Without GLW, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
To sustain this vital voice, we need to raise $300,000 this year. That's the amount needed for research and quality journalism, production and distribution. It's no surprise that we don't rely on corporate or government funding; we rely on the generosity and hard work of our friends and supporters. So far this year, we've just passed the $100,000 mark — one third of our target! This is wonderful, but still behind where we should be.

Congratulations to the dedicated GLW supporters in Melbourne, who last weekend raised nearly $6500 for the fighting fund with the 10th annual comedy debate. Prominent left-wing comedian Rod Quantock hosted the evening, which debated the idea that “Tony Abbott is our saviour”.
People from unions, environment groups and migrant communities heard from a panel of comedians and enjoyed a wonderful night. It is events like this that we hope to replicate around the country and encourage people to attend.
