10,000 people. 10 days. 5 days of action disrupting the world’s largest coal port.
The People’s Blockade 2024 will be a mass mobilisation of game-changing peaceful action for a climate revolution.
Workshops, grassroots democracy, a huge protestival with live music, DJs & floating dance parties.
Thousands of people will take to the water to stop coal exports for at least 48 hours, including two full nights! You can borrow one of our kayaks, or bring your own vessel – a kayak, tinny, yacht or surfboard!
The event will take place on the unceded land and water of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, at Muloobinba (Newcastle, NSW).
JOIN WITH THOUSANDS TO DEMAND
* An immediate end to new coal projects
* A 75% tax on coal export profits to fund community and industrial transitions and climate loss & damage.
* The end of coal exports from the world’s largest coal port, by 2030.
WHY JOIN THIS PROTEST?
Time is running out. We are hurtling towards catastrophic climate collapse. The recent UN climate talks, COP28, were a failure. The ALP government continues to approve new coal and gas projects, pouring fuel on the climate fire.
We need a peaceful citizen’s movement of unprecedented scale to break the fossil fuel industry’s stranglehold over our democracy.
BACKGROUND
Recently, 3,000 people joined the People’s Blockade 2023 and successfully stopped coal ship movements in a 32 hour flotilla blockade.
It was fun, joyous and beautiful. And when 109 people chose to be arrested, they made global headlines demanding an end to new fossil fuels and transition funding for workers and communities.
The People's Blockade 2023 was the spark. 2024 will be the big bang.
