SYDNEY — The alternative radio waves will be packed with sharp current affairs, superb specialist music and incisive talk as 2SER-FM celebrates its 14th birthday from September 25 to October 1.
The week will highlight SERvive-a-thon 93 — the station's main membership drive for the year. Both individuals and organisations are encouraged to become members to support diversity of the airwaves and the special role 2SER plays as an outlet for alternative broadcasting, information about community events and unusual and exciting music, from reggae to the newest releases in dance music.
"We will be producing a varied and inventive program, emphasising the diversity of broadcasting on 2SER-FM", said Steve Cassidy, the station's development manager.
"We want to emphasise that 2SER fills a special niche in Sydney's cultural life, through its own programs and also through the profile it gives to other organisations, local bands and artists. We will basically be doing what we do on air for 52 weeks of the year, but better. Our regular programming is the reason people listen, and we want to underline that."
Added enticements for the SERvive-a-thon are some stunning prizes: a return air ticket to London from STA Travel, a one-year double pass to the Valhalla Cinema, a $500 book voucher from the Co-op Bookshops and a $500 voucher from Gowings, plus hundreds of smaller prizes.
Steve Cassidy says 2SER's 14th birthday party promises to be the best radiothon yet. "Tune in; don't miss out."
