$500,000 Anti-racist Campaign Fund launched
Dear Green Left reader,
While many of us are angered and worried by the growth of the racist right wing in Australia, it is also clear that an effective challenge to it is possible.
On July 24 and 28, in the largest secondary student action of its kind in Australia's history, more than 14,000 students walked out of class and publicly demonstrated their opposition to racism and the policies of One Nation. They acted as the political conscience of Australia.
But we cannot stop there: racism remains, the One Nation party remains. Our struggle must grow. We have to take that opportunity and organise the increasing anti-racist sentiment.
We estimate that, as a result of the 11 new MPs in Queensland, One Nation will receive $500,000 in the next year from the Australian Electoral Commission. For our side, we need to raise at least a similar amount to build the campaign against them.
Therefore, Resistance has taken the step of establishing an Anti-racist Campaign Fund will a target of $500,000 in the next year.
We have already received a $100 cheque from one principal in WA, with the following comment attached:
"I would like to congratulate you on your stand. It has been most refreshing and encouraging to see, because of you, that there is a future."
We believe that this represents the sentiment of many people in Australia. We urge you to support the Anti-racist Campaign Fund, to consider seriously what you can donate and get in touch with us.
Fighting racism isn't a spectator sport; it can't be left to others and we have to start now. We will demonstrate that our future is our own and what we make of it.
Yours for a racism-free future,
Sean Healy
