Why

It is eight years since Reza Barati was brutally murdered while detained by the Australian government on Manus Island, PNG. At the time, then Immigration Minister and now Prime Minister, Scott Morrison attempted to blame Reza Barati for his own death. Since Reza was murdered, 11 other men have died on Manus and Nauru under Australia's lethal "offshore processing regime". Each death is a result of systemic violence that continues to this day. With the next Federal election on the horizon, it is important to hold in mind the ways that this policy has been upheld by successive government and revive calls for it to end.

Join the Refugee Rights Action Network to honour Reza Barati's lives and the lives of all of those who remain in limbo under this regime. We'll be joining with the weekly justice for refugees vigil in Fremantle - gathering from 5pm with some readings/a speakout from 5:30pm. Join as you're able to.

In line with current COVID-19 health advice, at this outdoor action we encourage participants to social distance/wear masks if unable to do so.
We acknowledge that we'll be meeting in Walyalup on the land of the Noongar people whose sovereignty was never ceded, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.
