Academics get political
PERTH — Australian academics intend standing candidates in the next federal elections as a protest against government education cutbacks.
Eight marginal Labor held seats will be targeted, including four in Western Australia.
University of WA Professor John Bloomfield claims that up to 3000 academics Australia-wide will be involved in the campaign. "We have been told so many lies by the government that we have got to the point that the only place to hit them is in the ballot box", Bloomfield said.
