CANBERRA — The growth of anti-war sentiment in the Australian Capital Territory was clear at the November 3 rally in Garema Place to oppose a US invasion of Iraq.
Seven hundred people attended the protest rally, which was organised by the ACT Network Opposing War. The rally was chaired by local Muslim community leader Diana Abdul-Rahman. Speakers included Resistance member and high school student Peter Krbavac, Phil Griffith from the Refugee Action Collective and Greens Senator Kerry Nettle.
Following the rally the protesters marched to the offices of Liberal Senator Margaret Reid and Labor MP Bob McMullan, chanting "No racism, no war, this what we're fighting for!"
