Orson Welles: The One-man Band — Making use of numerous fragments from Welles' estate, the film sketches a different picture of the last years of his life and consciously avoids the well-trodden paths taken by most film historians. The familiar and much analysed image of "Welles the Genius" is by-passed in favour of an inquiry into one of the most unusual and richly faceted personalities in film history. This program is followed by the movie Malpertuis, starring Orson Welles. SBS, Friday, April 25, 8.30pm.

Wole Soyinka — Andrea Stretton talks to the famous Nigerian playwright and democracy activist. He speaks of his turbulent life as well as art and politics. Now in exile, he has been charged with treason by the Nigerian dictatorship. SBS, Monday, April 28, 8.30pm.

Timeframe: Lake Pedder — Hydro-electricity used to be good for Tasmania, no matter what. After Lake Pedder, people weren't so sure. The battle to save Lake Pedder galvanised the environment movement. ABC TV, Thursday, May 1, 8.30pm.

The Wilderness Years: The Pursuit of Power — The final episode of a history of the British Labour Party in opposition screens on the night of the general election.
