More than 60 members of the Busselton LGBTIQ community, families and allies gathered in Mitchell Park on February 8 for the Protect Trans Youth National Day of Action, organised by the Trans Justice Project.
In a colourful show of solidarity, the group marched down Prince Street to Western Australian Liberal leader Libby Mettam’s office to demand that she meet the trans community to hear the truth about gender-affirming care.
They said the Queensland government must reverse its suspension of gender-affirming care for trans youth, which has already impacted 491 families.
Busselton Pride Alliance (BPA) is concerned that the WA Liberal Party could do the same if it wins the Western Australian election on March 8.
Mettam has repeatedly flagged implementing a similar ban, using the widely discredited Cass Review as justification. BPA has repeatedly asked Mettam to meet with the trans community, but its requests have fallen on deaf ears.
