Call to protest Rice-Rumsfeld visit

Emma Murphy, Adelaide

The Rice/Rumsfeld Reception Committee (RRRC) has begun organising around the possibility of the inaugural meeting of the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate being held in Adelaide later this year. Initial media reports indicate that the APPCDC summit would bring US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Adelaide, and that foreign minister Alexander Downer's attempts to host the Australia-US ministerial talks would bring US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld as well.

The exact date, location and attendance at the APPCDC meeting are yet to be confirmed, but the RRRC — a coalition of activists and organisations campaigning against war and environmental destruction — has issued a call to action for a national protest against the meeting should it go ahead.

For a copy of the call or more information, email <adelaide1105protest@yahoo.com.au>.
