Call for women's solidarity

BRISBANE — Murri women here have issued an appeal for support and solidarity from all women regarding black deaths in custody:

"We, the women of the Aboriginal community send this plea for support and understanding to all mothers everywhere who love, nourish and carry new life. We the women are the bearers of life, the foundations of the families and cultures of the world.

"We seek support to end the senseless and needless deaths of our young people, especially whilst in the custody of those empowered as protectors and keepers of the law in this society. Our children are denied their dreaming, our culture is robbed of their youth. We have shed too many tears over too many graves. We women must stand together in solidarity. It is not worthy of us as human beings that we remain silent any more. We as a nation cannot afford to lose our young or condone the denial of justice to the mothers of this country. We the women will keep safe the dreaming of Daniel Yock and all who have gone before him, and pray there will be none after him.

"In solidarity we ask for your support."
