Community development manual

Resource Manual for Facilitators in Community Development
By Jeremy McArdle
Reviewed by Chris Slee

This loose-leaf manual is intended to help community groups gain the skills they need to organise effectively and achieve their goals. It includes sections on lobbying techniques, submission writing, encouraging participation, meeting procedures, and publicity strategies.

I would have liked to see a section on organising demonstrations, as well as some discussion of the option of running independent election campaigns, instead of (or in addition to) lobbying existing politicians.

Overall, the emphasis is on influencing those in power, rather than challenging their power.

The manual can be obtained from: Eva Fabian, Employ Publishing Group, Windsor Vic 3181; phone (03) 525-3384.
