Cuban musician launches Brisbane tour

BRISBANE — More than 100 people packed into the Resistance Centre here on June 25 to hear the brilliant percussion playing of award-winning Cuban musician Jacinto Herrera.
The Cuba Solidarity Dance Party was sponsored by Green Left Weekly as the first major concert of the Brisbane leg of Herrera's Australian tour.
Also featuring on the night were Lachlan Hurst and Sue Monk (Jumping Fences) and Ovideo Orellanas (from Majawil Q'ij).
Democratic Socialist Party Brisbane secretary Jim McIlroy urged the audience to support the Cuban people's struggle for national and cultural independence, and to join in the international campaign to condemn the illegal US blockade of Cuba.
Coral Wynter, secretary of the Brisbane Committee in Solidarity with Latin America and the Caribbean (CISLAC), and Oscar Orellanas, joint secretary of the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society, called for support for the work of the solidarity movement in Australia.
