Diana fever
Welcome to Green Left Weekly — a paper that is a Diana-free zone. If you were hoping to find a seven-part series on the life and times of Di as you scanned these pages, along with glamour posters and special details on how to win a personally signed commemorative plate, well, you'll need to look elsewhere.
It certainly isn't difficult to find endless pages of Di gush in the establishment press at the moment. The Daily Trivia 'n' Tripe has a special scoop on the "hard facts" (read latest conspiracy theory) on the death of Di, while New You Glossy mag has a detailed account on how you too can aspire to live as humbly and gracefully as the "people's princess".
Then there is the "Di industry", which is working overtime at the moment. Products ranging from margarine to music CDS have been specially repackaged, hoping to appeal to your sensibilities and concern for those less fortunate than yourself, with the promise of a minuscule slice of the profits to this or that charity.
Are we to expect the same sickening hype each year? Probably. The big business media parasites who profited a great deal from the Di hype while she was alive will attempt to make plenty more out of her from the grave.
If you're in need of something to help repel the Di fever present in plague proportion at the moment, Green Left Weekly is sure to fit the bill.
Being an independent and progressive newspaper, entirely self-funded, means Green Left Weekly needs regular help from readers. A contribution to the Green Left Weekly fighting fund will make a big difference.
