Environment policy launched

By Roberto Jorquera

SYDNEY — A lively discussion around environmentally sustainable alternatives marked the environment policy forum for the Democratic Socialist campaign in the NSW elections.

Speakers at the public forum, on February 21, included upper house candidate Bruce Threlfo and Francesca Davidson from Resistance.

Using the current campaign against the third runway as an example, Threlfo argued that more community discussion and control was needed. "The recent decision that has resulted in the increased use of the third runway once again demonstrates how out of touch with the community both Labor and Liberal are."

Davidson spoke of the campaign against the extension of woodchipping licences. She said,"Resistance and Democratic Socialists will continue to campaign against this recent decision by the ALP ... it is important that the campaign continues to mobilise people through rallies, pickets and marches if it is going to place sufficient pressure on the ALP to reverse its decision."
