Forum condemns youth crime bill
By Leon Harrison
PERTH — A public forum on January 29 condemned the state government's juvenile crime legislation, under which children as young as 10 could be detained indefinitely.
The 500-strong forum at the Loftus Community Centre was organised by the Uniting Church and attended by youth workers, members of the Aboriginal community, academics and others who see that the causes of youth crime need to be addressed.
The meeting concluded that there must be solutions to problems like youth unemployment, accommodation, racism and poverty.
