On August 27, former Victorian secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union Craig Johnston was jailed for nine months for an industrial protest in defence of jobs. Despite 40-50 people being involved in the protest, only
Johnston was singled out for jailing. Johnston is the first person in many years to be jailed for a non-violent industrial or political protest.
Fifteen Victorian unions have called a mass protest in demand of Johnston's release at 10am on November 25, outside the State Library in Melbourne. Phone 0413 377 978 for more information.
