Genocide Protest at Parliament House

Actions, protests & rallies
Ngunnawal/Canberra

When

9:00am to 3:00pm Thursday 28 November

Where

Colonial HQ aka Parliament House
Canberra ACT
Australia

Why

Blak independent Senator Lidia Thorpe's Private Senator's Bill which seeks to remove the Attorney-General's fiat — a veto power which currently blocks the prosecution of Genocide in this country — will be debated  on Thursday 28th November.

During the debate, there will be a protest happening outside Parliament House to draw attention to the injustice (and irony) of debating whether Genocide should be freely prosecuted in the so-called democracy of Australia.

Runsheet:

09.00am - Watch parliamentary debate on the bill on livestream

10.30am - Protest rally starts on Parliament House lawn

Speakers include:

Aunty Barbara Flick, a Yuwaalaayi, Gamilaraay and Bigambul woman who has staunchly fought for the rights of First Peoples for over 50 years.

Uncle Jim Everett, a plangermairreenner man from lutriwita (Tasmania).

Today, at 82 years young, he is a staunch example of what it means to stand firm in your Sovereignty against the colonial Genocide inflicted upon our sacred lands.

12.30 - Connect with community and network.
