Why

George Mann will be performing at the Older Women's Network in Newtown during his Australian tour. He'll be joined by the Sydney Trade Union Choir and 40 Degrees South.

George https://georgemannmusic.com/ is a songwriter's singer who would just as soon share stories and songs from the long history of folk music as sing his own songs! George has produced albums featuring such folk music legends as Utah Phillips, Pete Seeger, and Tom Paxton, and produced national tours of the US and Australia in honor of The Almanac Singers (2013) and Joe Hill (2015). George released his CD “This Chain” in October 2023 and toured folk clubs and festivals in Australia. He has just released a CD of Si Kahn’s songs, “Labor Day,” to honor Si on his 80th birthday.

The Sydney Trade Union Choir https://sydneytradeunionchoir.wordpress.com/ was formed in 1991 and sings at union conferences and picket lines, May Day, IWD and other marches and rallies, folk festivals, markets, pubs, clubs, parties and even funerals — wherever people are interested in workers’ rights, social justice, liberation, democratic and human rights, peace and the environment. Their repertoire includes Australian and international songs of struggle— traditional and contemporary, moving and witty, but always with a political message.

Acapella group, 40 Degrees South https://40degrees-south.com/ (with Margaret Walters, Don Brian and Chris Maltby) will also perform songs from their Labour History repertoire.
