Why

WA's black cockatoos are an 'umbrella species' – protecting their forest and woodland habitat has flow-on benefits for many other types of flora and fauna. Help us to celebrate the black cockatoo and bring attention to their plight, by helping us to create a giant black cockatoo from umbrellas for World Environment Day. Meet under the DNA tower at Kings Park, wear black, and bring a black umbrella. We will take photos from the top of the tower, and then join us for a coffee at the Zamia Cafe afterward.

Tanya Plibersek has asked the conservation sector this week for 'bold and ambitious conservation ideas' so we have put forward our 12-point plan to save the Black Cockatoos. We also pointed out that as they are umbrella species, saving them will help save all the flora and fauna of the South West Australian Global Biodiversity Hotspot where they live.
