This year’s Australian Climate Action Summit will take place over September 19 to 21 in Brisbane. The Community Climate Network released this statement saying the timing of the summit is more urgent than ever.

The Australian Climate Action Summit brings individuals from diverse backgrounds, businesses, educational institutions and industries together to discuss climate change and the implementation of methods that not only provide for a sustainable future but to also combat unstable climate change.
The Summit is held annually by the Community Climate Network, which is the national network for Climate Action groups. Members of this group seek to create awareness of the dangers of climate change within their community. This year the Summit will be hosted at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Gardens Point Campus.
Summit spokesperson Professor David Hood said: “The Summit will bring together people from all walks of life with a common goal — to boost the transition to a clean, healthy and job rich future for us and the environments we share.
“There will be something for everyone at this multi-generational event. Whether you are 'just getting curious' about climate change or you are a long-time activist you will enjoy attending the summit.
“Everyone is welcome to come and learn the facts, build skills for action, recharge your passion or just to take comfort in the positive atmosphere.
“The current state and federal governments are trying to demolish the safe climate all Australians depend on. At a time when we need to be making our economy cleaner and more efficient this cannot continue.
“They are doing this by abolishing climate legislation and approving mega new coalmines. The summit will call on all governments to encourage and facilitate massive investments in renewable energy and shift the economy towards more sustainable and resilient industries. It is in our national interests to take action now if we are to avoid the more serious costs that further delay will cause.”
The summit will be held on the same weekend as the UN Secretary General's Climate Leadership Summit in New York. Massive rallies calling for action on climate change and for the Prime Minister to bow to community and international pressure by embracing climate change as part of the Brisbane G20 Summit agenda will also be held over the weekend.
Hood said: “Brisbane will be under the spotlight during this big weekend for the climate. We are calling on the Brisbane community to join the summit and the marches to take a stand for our farmers, our young people, Pacific Islanders and all of the people already being severely impacted by climate change.
“It will be our chance to say we do not want new coal mega mines, we do want climate and energy security solutions for Australia and the world.”
