Green Left Weekly and the GST

June 28, 2000
Issue

With the introduction of the GST on July 1, we will be forced to increase the price of Green Left Weekly. This will be the first price increase for GLW since August 1995.

Through the GST, the government will take one 11th of GLW's sales income. As a not-for-profit newspaper, Green Left is unable to absorb that expense and maintain the current price.

The new official cover price will be $2.20.

We are also introducing a special "solidarity price" of $3, which includes an 80 cent donation to GLW. We hope that as many buyers as possible will give the solidarity price: that little extra income per paper will be a considerable help in meeting our rising production costs, and enable us to maintain the professional presentation and unique content of the paper.

The ongoing viability of GLW as a high quality alternative news source relies a great deal on the generous financial contributions of those who read and support the paper. Every donation makes a difference.

We believe that readers of the paper will continue to appreciate the invaluable role that GLW plays as Australia's leading progressive and radical news weekly. As GLW nears its 10th year in production, the paper maintains its commitment to all struggles for justice, here and around the world. With your help, we will meet that commitment.
