Hindmarsh picket continues
ADELAIDE — Support for the Friends of Goolwa and Kumarangk — opposing the proposed Hindmarsh Island bridge and associated developments — is growing.
Unions supporting this broad coalition now include all sections of the metalworkers and the seamen, Waterside Workers, Institute of Teachers, Gasworkers, Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance, Builders Labourers Federation, Transport Workers and Electrical Trades Union. Nine ferry operators have resigned from the AWU and joined the CFMEU, which opposes the bridge.
During surveying recently, Aboriginal campsites thousands of years old have been discovered. These sites would be destroyed were the development to proceed.
Dave Thomason from the CFMEU said that the picketers were all prepared to be arrested should the police be sent in to remove them.
Messages of support can be faxed to Dave Thomason at the CFMEU state office on (08) 231 2238.
