Landslide vote for women's right to choose in Ireland

Yes vote supporters celebrate as the results in the Irish referendum on the 8th amendment concerning the country's abortion laws takes place at Dublin Castle on May 26 in Dublin, Ireland.

Ireland, one of Europe's most socially conservative countries, has voted by a landslide to liberalise the world's most restrictive abortion laws, Common Dreams noted.

The result was 66.4% to 33.6% in favour of repealing the constitutional amendment that banned abortion, with one of the highest-ever turn outs for a refereundum in Ireland (64.5% of registered voters). Thousands of Irish people living abroad travelled back to vote, with huge suport for change from younger voters.
