One hundred people rallied in Wollongong on March 5 in solidarity with the peoples’ uprising against Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The rally heard from Libyan students who spoke of the brutality of Gaddafi's regime and the need for democracy. They urged the Australian government to pressure Gaddafi to step down.

One student told the crowd that his brother had been killed by the military during a demonstration. Resistance member Annie Ross chaired the rally. Other speakers included two candidates in the NSW state election: the independent candidate for Wollongong Gordon Bradbury and Socialist Alliance candidate for Keira Paola Harvey. Harvey spoke against Western military intervention in Libya.
