ADELAIDE — Posters are being pasted up in schools and public places here by the neo-Nazi group National Action. The posters feature a picture of Resistance leader Marina Carman and state that Resistance is a "homosexual cult" and that within six to eight months of joining Resistance, young people become gay or lesbian.
The posters also state that Adelaide High School principal, Mr Dowdy, supports Resistance and encourages students to join.
Resistance is not a "homosexual cult" (although it does support young people's right to express their sexuality). Mr Dowdy (who is on long-service leave, and was away during both of the recent Resistance-organised high school student walkouts against racism) and the staff at Adelaide High School have, in fact, actively opposed Resistance's work.
After the success of the July 24 walkout against racism, Adelaide High School was targeted by National Action, which put up the posters around the school.
The weekend after the next walkout on August 28, National Action smashed windows at the school and scrawled "Resistance is a homosexual cult. Sack Dowdy" across a prominent wall on the school grounds. Two days later, school doors were set on fire during the night.
A page on one of National Action's web sites titled "Stop the school invasion" calls on "white" students to form "clubs" to "protect" themselves from "Asian gangs". It offers the use of a gym for "self-defence" training.
This is in stark contrast to how Resistance organises amongst high school students. Resistance is opposed to racist violence and urges students to protest against racism peacefully. Resistance high school students organise openly and democratically.
