Newcastle art attack

NEWCASTLE — Artists for East Timor and Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor commemorated the 1991 Dili massacre by launching an "art attack" on the city square, Wheeler Place on November 12. Thirty people, including art school staff and students, chalked a 100 square metre-large mural featuring a map of East Timor with the words "25 years of genocide, East Timor holocaust — we want a people's inquiry NOW!". Two radio stations covered the event, which was also videotaped. For more information about Artists for East Timor, see page 21.
