A candlelight vigil was organised on March 4 in Garema Place to oppose Russia’s war in Ukraine. It was organised by the new group No War, No AUKUS ACT.

Sue Wareham from the Medical Association for the Prevention of War condemned the invasion saying it was a breach of the United Nations Charter. “We call for an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian troops … an end to hostilities by all parties … [and] call for negotiated settlement of all security concerns between nations and within Ukraine including halting the expansion of NATO.”

She said No War, No AUKUS ACT supports the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and wants Australia to sign and ratify it.
