NOWSA vox pops
Evelyn, NSW: I've always had an interest in feminism, and when I came to uni I joined the women's collective there straight away ... There should have been more workshops [at NOWSA] on organising actions.
Sharon, Vic: I first became involved in the struggle for women's rights by just seeing how women are treated within society. We are denied access to abortion and continuously told we have to conform to the beauty myth.
I thought the conference was quite good in discussing the need to fight the continuing attacks on women's rights, and also in figuring out how we can collectively fight for these rights.
Jacqui, Vic: I first started to become aware of feminism in my senior year of high school. In my first year of uni I wanted to become more aware and get more involved so we could make some kind of difference.
Coming to NOWSA has been a real eye-opening experience. It's been great to be able to be at a conference where we all identify as feminists whilst recognising that there are differences in our political ideas.
Nati: I did not become involved in the struggle for women's rights due to any one campaign. I became involved because as a woman I'm more likely to be raped, and I can't even walk down my street at night safely.
I thought the conference was really successful in encouraging debate and awareness around issues that affect different women. It was also good in mobilising people in different campaigns that are happening around the country.
