Nuke industry seminar picketed

DARWIN — A small group gathered outside the SkyCity Casino on February 28 to protest against a planned nuclear waste dump and the expansion of uranium mining, which were being discussed at an industry seminar inside. The protesters highlighted the fact that the long-term consequences far outweigh the short-term interests of industry profiteers, and that doubling power production through the use of nuclear energy would bring about a mere 5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, far less than the reduction needed.
