Old Indonesian communists still imprisoned
On August 17, justice minister Muladi announced the release from prison of 78-year-old Manan Effendi Tjokroharjo and 80-year-old Alexander Warouw. Both were Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) leaders in Kalimantan before 1965. Muladi also announced that a PKI trade union leader arrested in 1967, 72-year-old Pujo Prasetyo, would be released.
However, 10 other people arrested in 1965 or soon after remain in prison. They are pro-Sukarno military officers accused of siding with the PKI, Colonel Abdul Latief (72), Sergeant I.
