Nyoongar activists and their supporters refused to leave Perth’s Heirisson Island on February 19 when a squad of armed police arrived to evict them. The police forced the protesters to remove cars and tents from the island but the embassy remains.
The Tent Embassy was established on February 12 in response to the state government proposal to extinguish Nyoongar native title.
