More than 100 people gathered at Sydney Town Hall on May 8 to demand an end to sexism and justice for survivors.

They aimed their fire at parliament and schools. The rally and march were organised by Youth Survivors 4 Justice and was promoted by GetUp.

A number of speakers, including young survivors of sexual assault, spoke passionately about changes needed in the justice system to provide proper support for the victims of assault. The federal government’s cuts to legal aid, domestic violence support and homelessness services was also criticised.

The rally called for sexist politicians to be booted out of parliaments, for legal and economic support for survivors, greater funding for domestic violence and women’s services, including the hotline 1800RESPECT, and to update antiquated consent laws to legislate for enthusiastic consent, which the Greens are initiating in the NSW parliament.
