More than 200 people rallied for LGBTIQ rights in Brisbane on June 25 in the face of threats by the Labor government to bring back a version of the former Coalition government’s religious discrimination bill.

The international swimming federations ban on trans women in elite sport was challenged. “Do you think this will stop at elite sports?” one speaker asked. “Do you think this will stop at sport?”

Speakers also highlighted the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Roe v Wade ruling, thereby withdrawing constitutional abortion rights.

Speakers noted that the far right’s attacks on the rights of trans people is a mobilising call to launch attacks on a much broader range of human rights.
