SYDNEY — On Sunday, December 20, Central Sydney Resistance branch is planning a day of Marxism on the Beach at Manly Youth Centre. Resistance activist Aaron Benedek said, "It will be a great opportunity to revisit some of the more contentious debates that have taken place in politics this year in a more relaxed, social atmosphere". Topics for discussion include feminism, nationalism and different approaches to activism. Resistance encourages activists from as many different backgrounds as possible to join us on the day for a political wrap-up of the year.

CANBERRA — ACT education minister Bill Stefaniak has tried to ban an alternative publication, the anarchist mag Activate, from being distributed on Canberra's high schools. Resistance has condemned this censorship — students should be able to read what they want to and make up their own minds. To assert such rights, Resistance is producing a mass distribution issue of Student Underground, a high school Resistance publication. To get a copy of Student Underground, phone 6247 2424.

CANBERRA — ACT Chief Minister Kate Carnell is attempting to close down the Woden Youth Centre, a centre well known for being outspoken about current issues. Already, a protest petition has been circulated, signed by 1500 people, and further plans are under way. According to one of the youth workers at the centre, "There's a disturbing trend towards removing community services. I know lots of organisations that would like the property we have now, but in reality, they wouldn't offer the services to the youth that we do."
