CAIRNS — Members of the Socialist Alliance in Cairns and Townsville launched a Northern Queensland branch of SA on October 15.

At the launch, held in the Sapphire Bar, Stuey Traill, a local Electrical Trades Union organiser and president of the provincial Queensland Council of Unions, greeted the new branch as contributing to the political activity that unionists in the region need following the Your Rights at Work campaign.

Resistance activist Jyade Old, and Cairns SA co-conveners Andrea McNamara and Carla Gorton, spoke about the local campaigns that SA has been involved in, including for workers' and union rights, justice for Indigenous people and sustainable public transport.
