Socialists launch campaign
By Melanie Sjoberg
ADELAIDE — The Democratic Socialists formally launched their state election campaign at a relaxed dinner on November 19.
Andrew Hall, candidate for the seat of Adelaide, told supporters that this was a real opportunity to test the sentiment for a new kind of politics. He pointed out that "neither tweedledum nor tweedledummer offer any policies that would be beneficial to ordinary people.
"The experience of the NZ Alliance should give us the confidence that an alternative is both possible and necessary. We stand on a platform of jobs, social justice and genuine democracy. By that we mean that we guarantee to comply with our policies if elected and we will not compromise nor do backroom deals."
The campaign is focusing on the Adelaide and Peake electorates, but people from any area are welcome to help out. The main tasks for the campaign involve letterboxing and pasting up promotional posters, as well as handing out how to votes on polling day.
