Swords into ploughshares
In the early hours of January 6, Chris Cole, a Christian peace activist, entered the British Aerospace (BAe) weapons factory in Stevenage in southern England and attacked the nosecones of fighter aircraft with hammers.
The strike attack Hawk aircraft are being built for the Indonesian armed forces. Cole, wearing a white coat with "BAe Bomb Disposal" written on the back, was arrested after about an hour.
The Crown Prosecutor has estimated a damage bill of over $1 million. This is the second Ploughshares action. The first, against a NAVSTAR satellite used for Trident missile guidance, set that program back several months.
