The Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC) will present the 4th Annual Tropical Alternatives Film Festival in Cairns over May 6-9.
The film festival will show a variety of films highlighting the richness in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
QAHC Health Promotion Officer and Film Festival Coordinator, Kevin Scott said, "Many LGBT people love movies but find their lives and their stories are not reflected on the silver screen. The Tropical Alternatives Film Festival shows films that mirror the lives of people in our communities".
"The festival allows LGBT people and their supporters to share the joy of watching movies that support their life experience in regional Queensland. The storytellers of our community give us hope, courage and strength to stand up and live life to the full."
The Queensland Association for Healthy Communities will also launch the Queensland Pride Short Film Competition as part of the festival.
The Queensland Pride Short Film Competition gives local film makers an avenue for self-expression while allowing audiences to sample home grown films. Winning entries will be screened at the Tropical Alternative Film Festival in regional Queensland communities.
