VENEZUELA: Help the Bolivarian revolution be heard

BY CHRISTANO KERRILA

A revolution is unfolding in Venezuela and a life and death struggle is taking place between the future and the past. Venezuela's mainstream national media is almost totally monopolised by the corrupt capitalist oligarchy.

While there is a flourishing grassroots counter-media beginning to form throughout the country, which is providing very important information, very little can be directly channelled to English-speaking audiences on a regular basis.

The one source which does give a constant flow of information from Venezuela in English is Vheadline (at <http://www.vheadline.com>). Vheadline is an extremely useful source for activists, journalists or anyone interested in developments in Venezuela. It is dedicated to building Venezuela's radical democracy and defending the Latin American country's sovereignty.

Because of Vheadline's courageous and unique role in distributing the truth, it has been the victim of a range of attacks from opponents of change. At some stages, the Vheadline web site has suffered virus and hacking attempts on average every four minutes. There are constant attempts to intimidate and harass those who advertise on the web site.

Since Vheadline publishes daily on the web, it is very expensive to maintain. Just like with Green Left Weekly, the financial burden falls on people who understand the necessity of an independent, non-profit progressive media.

Vheadline desperately needs all the support it can get. Donations, no matter how big or small, are needed to help ensure its survival. Donate using a credit card via Paypal at <http://tinyurl.com/n4fg>.
