Why

Welcome Behrouz Boochani to Newcastle! This is a significant occasion, on which to hold a vigil for refugees still held in PNG after ten years. And we have just heard that refugees and asylum seekers are being quietly dumped in Nauru.

"Award-winning Kurdish-Iranian journalist, writer, filmmaker, and human rights activist Behrouz Boochani will speak about his most recent book Freedom, Only Freedom from 4.00pm on December 3.

The special event is a collaboration between the Newcastle Writers Festival and the Universityof Newcastle’s Looking Ahead speaker series and will be held at the Conservatorium of Music"
