Supporters of the struggle for peace, democracy and women’s rights in Kobane, Rojava, gathered to mark World Kobane Day on October 31.

Greens MLC David Shoebridge, Rev Bill Crews, Maysoon Elnigoumi from the Sudanese community, Susan Price from the Socialist Alliance, Peter Boyle from Rojava Solidarity Sydney and Gule Rose, Co-chair of the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre spoke about the significance of the 2014–15 battle to free the northern Syrian town of Kobane from ISIS, and the achievements and challenges of the revolution.

The protesters criticised Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and called for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan to be released from a Turkish prison.
