Less than honest

It is appalling to hear ex prime minister Fraser describing the Contras' war as a good cause. What hypocrisy. I have never heard him criticising the fascist Somoza regime. A victory for the Contras would have led to the same injustice and terror now experienced by the people of El Salvador. In this context Mr Fraser's involvement with the freedom struggle in South Africa looks less than honest.

Mystery

Can someone explain this mystery? I have heard many people claim that the source of Australia's/the world's problems is overpopulation. But none of them ever take the logical next step of leaving the country/planet.

Aid and population

Proposals from the CHOGM conference in Harare to tie aid to human rights issues avoid the self-perpetuating nature of economic aid, either in its present form or in that proposed.

It is self-perpetuating because it raises both population and expectation levels and is also quite often environmentally harmful.

If, instead, aid was tied to population control measures there would be some logic in it.
