Speaking tour by Palestinian woman

SYDNEY — Dr Ilham Abu-Ghazaleh, assistant professor at Birzeit University on the West Bank, will be speaking at meetings here between July 14 and 16. Dr Abu-Ghazaleh who has been sponsored by the Uniting Church's Social Responsibilities and Justice Committee, is on the final leg of her Australian tour.

Dr Abu-Ghazaleh has been a teacher at schools, colleges and universities, mainly in the occupied territories, since 1964. She has been a participant in numerous international conferences and seminars, giving papers on Palestinian and Middle Eastern issues, women's issues and literature.

Dr Abu-Ghazaleh will address three separate Sydney meetings.

On July 14 she will speak on the Israeli occupation and Palestinian children, looking at the effects of occupation upon the next generation of Palestinian people. On July 15, a meeting entitled "The Plight of Palestinian Women under the Occupation" will discuss the beginning of new forms of Palestinian women's activism and organisation and the relationships with more traditional organisations. On July 16, Dr Abu-Ghazaleh will examine the struggle for peace in the different political, cultural and economic levels of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
