Adelaide Fringe/Festival
During the next few weeks Adelaide will be inundated with a variety of cultural forms. Listed here are only a few of many highlights.
Aboriginal and Islander Music Festival — Warumpi Band, Mixed Relations, Seven Sisters, Amunda and more.
Artists Week, February 22-26 — a free series of forums, performance and installations for viewing. There is a strong focus on Aboriginality in art, along with contributions by Asian artists. A complete list is available from the Art Gallery.
Blood Orange, February 22-27 —Women of different cultures coming together to share stories and images of body and identity.
Dancing the Gay Fandango —dance theatre production depicting aspects of relationships. Separate performances for gay men and lesbians.
Fringe Out West February 18-20 — a community-based multicultural arts festival at an affordable price. Fantasia Convention Centre, 229 Findon Rd, Findon. Performers include Peruvian and Salvadoran dancers, Vietnamese and Chinses song, music of north India, Aboriginal music and dance, and each afternoon a separate special program for 3-15 year olds.
Melbourne Indie Women, February 20-26 — Idle Fingers, acoustic folk/blues Nude Rain, a cappella, Daska Saleeba, sharp social commentary and Penelope Swales, singer/songwriter. At the Astor Hotel.
Pride Festival — carnival day for gay men and lesbians in the fringe courtyard. February 20.
Square Pegs — An explosive theatre piece depicting the lives, difficulties and frustrations of three women and their disabled children. Junction Theatre Company.
SCAT Fringe Narrowcast — Student and community TV will be covering the entire fringe and relaying onto cabled TVs around the Lion Arts Centre.
Toothless and Conniving Bitches — Sue Ann Post and Lynda Gibson delight with their political insight and cutting humour.
Women and Sexuality in Asian Film — festival of releases from Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong.
