Protest against Wingti

Paias Wingti, prime minister of Papua New Guinea, will be visiting Australia from February 8. It is understood that during his trip he will speak about the war in Bougainville. A protest has been organised by the Bougainville Freedom Movement to coincide with Wingti's visit to Canberra on February 9 and 10.

The protest will take place outside Parliament House between 11.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday February 9, while Paul Keating lunches with Wingti. For further details call (062) 497 951.

Wingti will also travel to Melbourne and Brisbane, and protests are being organised in those cities.

It is believed that Wingti's mission is twofold: raising capital for a prospective CRA gold mining venture on the island of Lihir, and seeking more military aid to enable the PNG armed forces to retake the CRA-owned Panguna copper mine.
