NOWSA conference at Macquarie Uni

By Kathy O'Driscall

SYDNEY — "NOWSA has provided a fantastic networking opportunity for women student activists since it first began in 1987. Hopefully, this year we'll be able to have more concrete discussions for ongoing campaigns", says Zanny Begg a member of the Sydney organising collective for the Network of Women Students Australia conference.

The NOWSA conference will be held in Sydney July 11-15. Last year's conference at the University of Queensland drew more than 500 women to discuss feminism, sexism, sexuality, racism, the environmental struggle and a broad range of other issues confronting women. There were lively and educational discussions on the oppression that women face and ways in which to challenge it.

The NOWSA conference is an important place for women students from university, TAFE and high school to address issues and debates within the women's movement.

This year's conference, at Macquarie University, aims to be just as exciting as the last. Debate and discussion on post-modernism, the family, racism, feminism and sexuality will be highlights.

Besides plenary discussions, there will be workshops covering a variety of issues and a public meeting on abortion and reproductive rights. To register for the conference, call Macquarie University Women's Department on (02) 850 7629.
